Basic steps

What to do

Start by following these basic troubleshooting steps. If these steps do not resolve your problem, please proceed to the FAQ for further assistance and guidance.

  • Restart your computer
  • Start GTA V into singleplayer atleast once
  • You must have a clean version of GTA V. Graphical mods (Reshade, ENB, NVE, ...) are not supported
  • Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable has to be installed
  • Try running alt:V as administrator
  • If the launcher is stuck on "Loading alt:V Client", restart Steam or Epic Games Launcher if applicable
  • Ensure alt:V is installed to a directory which is not your desktop, the GTA V directory and that the path doesn't includes any special characters
  • Add an exception for alt:V to your antivirus software (including Windows Defender)
  • Try using a different DNS server, for example Cloudflare DNS or Google DNS
  • Update the drivers for your graphics card
  • If your game is crashing when joining a server try a different one
